Atlas V Launch Stages

    1.  Liftoff

    2.  Solid rocket boosters separate from main rocket body.

    3.  Payload separates from main rocket body ( payload includes spacecraft, smaller rocket for athmospheric control, and spacecraft covering for cruise stage ).

    4.  Smaller rocket stays attatched to the spacecraft for 32 minutes and 87 seconds, avoiding and guiding the spacecraft.

    5.  Spacecraft separates from smaller rocket.
